Who is Dan “The Mortgage Man?”

Hi, I’m Dan Summerfeldt, and in 1992 I began helping individuals, families and businesses as a financial planner.  A few years later, my business partner and I purchased one of our client’s businesses, a growing portable toilet company in Alaska.  I traded my business suit for coveralls and soon earned the nickname “Rent-a-Can Dan.” My wife Siobhan bravely put up with the “bathroom humor” we endured for several years before her company relocated her to Portland, Oregon in 1998.

After I sold my share of the business and moved to Portland, I was  encouraged to return to financial advising where I fell in love with helping people with mortgage planning.  Since then, I’ve focused exclusively on helping people purchase or refinance their homes, earning me the new nickname of “Dan the Mortgage Man.”

It’s by combining the skills learned from the times I wore the fancy business suit, and the times I was running our business, knee deep in …(you know), that gives me the creativity, determination and the financial background necessary to help my clients understand and secure the best fit for their lending needs.  Sometimes this even means counseling our clients to wait until they are in a better situation to make a change, or supporting them when sticking with their current loan makes the most sense.

My wife Siobhan and I work out of our Portland, Oregon office with clients in Oregon and Washington.  We have the flexibility to offer a variety of lending solutions including Conventional, VA, USDA, and FHA, in addition to some of the opportunities available under the new government homeowners assistance programs.  We also have the confidence and determination to offer reassurance and expertise in more challenging loans, including opportunities for self-employed borrowers, manufactured homeowners, and for homeowners or their families considering a reverse mortgage.

As a family operated office we seek lending solutions that are sustainable for our clients and our business to ensure life long trust based relationships.  This means that as ironic as it is that we “sell” debt, we are firm believers in getting out of debt, so we encourage our clients to adopt a mortgage payoff strategy, freeing them from mortgage payments as soon as they are able.

I look forward to the opportunity to help you through the lending process,  or help you confirm you are already headed in the direction that best meets your needs.

Cheers!

Dan
